Elizabeth Loewen

Elizabeth M. Loewen was born August 2, 1918, in Mountain Lake, MN to Henry D. and Margaret (Eitzen) Esau. A lifetime resident of Mountain Lake, Elizabeth graduated from Mountain Lake High School. She was united in marriage to Jacob J. Loewen on September 20, 1940, at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. The couple owned and operated Jake's Clothing from 1946 until Jacob's death in 1969. Elizabeth then worked as the Activities Director at Good Samaritan for many years and retired in 1983. Elizabeth was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Worship and Sew, and Town and Country Extension Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, crafts, playing games (Canasta, Rummikub, Scrabble), and especially enjoyed extended family visits. Elizabeth M. Loewen died Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake at the age of 99. She is survived by daughters- Marjorie Schrag of Bloomington, IN, and Margaret (Dale) Schrag of N. Newton, KS; grandchildren- Matthew (Laura) Schrag and their children Sara and Anna of Edina, MN, Andrew (Joy) Schrag and their children Carter and Anderson of Hickory, NC, Eric (Gretchen) Schrag and their children Julianna, Timothy, and Jacob of Hillsboro, KS, and Elizabeth 'Libby' (Clark Oswald) Schrag and their children Margaret 'Mara', Adam, Jude, and Ruby; and sister-in-law Laura Saeger of Scottsdale, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry D. and Margaret Esau; husband Jacob J. Loewen on December 20, 1969; sister Norma (Eugene) Richardson; and brother Arlowe (Betty) Esau.
