Elden Dammann

July 7, 1930 — June 17, 2019

Elden Dammann, age 88 of Springfield and formerly of Sanborn died on Monday, June 17, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. Elden was born on the family farm by Sanborn on July 7, 1930, to Herman and Mary (Radtke) Dammann, the 5th of 6 children. He served with the U.S. Marine Corp doing his basic training starting in October of 1951 at San Diego Camp Pendleton. He served one year in South Korea on the front line receiving a Purple Heart in February of 1953 and was honorable discharged. Elden met Elna Giersdorf prior to serving in the Marine Corp at the Sanborn Ballroom roller skating rink. After Elden returned home from the war in 1953, the couple married on December 8, 1953, at the Sanborn United Methodist Church. The couple farmed and raised their two children, Bradley and Brenda. Elden was a member of the Colburn American Legion Post #286 in Sanborn and the Sanborn United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, dancing, traveling, trips to the casino with Elna, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his daughter - Brenda Anderson of Springfield; daughter-in-law - Marilyn Dammann of Duluth; grandchildren - Paul Anderson of Springfield, Terry (Meghan) Anderson of Canton, SD, Wade (Whitney) Anderson of Courtland, Wain (Amanda) Dammann, Jeremy Dammann, Jason Dammann, Kristi (Josh) Wagner, Kayla (John) Marnati all of the Duluth area; great grandchildren - Alora, Abrina, and Avia Dammann, Rylynn, Lily, and Jaxson Wagner, and Asher and Ryker Anderson; siblings - Stan (Marcie) Dammann of Springfield, Gerald Dammann of Sanborn, Glenn (Arlene) Dammann of Springfield; and Melva Ochs of Faribault. He was preceded in death by her parents; wife - Elna in 2017; son - Bradley; son-in-law - Arthur Anderson; and sister - Ardell Bassett.
