Edward was born on January 6, 1925 in Antrim Township. He lived in Staples MN but at an early age, returned to Watonwan county to work at a dairy farm. In his teens he headed west and was working in the Long Beach CA Naval Yard when WWII broke out. He enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Lexington, the USS Yorktown, and the USS Fall River all in the Pacific war zone. After his military discharge in February 1946, he returned to St. James MN and married LaVon Hurley on April 24, 1946 in the St. James Catholic Church. Edward then hired on with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad where he worked as an Engineer for the next 40 years. Ed moved his family to Worthington MN where they remained until 1975. Again St. James called them home. Ed lived here for another quarter century until moving to Old Main Village, Mankato MN. It was then that he suffered the loss of his wife of 56 years. In 2011 Ed moved for the final time to Anoka MN to be near his family. Edward enjoyed being active in the Veterans community, tending his rose garden, and traveling as work and life would allow. He loved Minnesota sports and was an avid fan of both the Twins and Vikings. At 87, Ed began lobbying on behalf of elderly Minnesotans, to include meeting with state representatives at the Capitol. Edward wrote a monthly column for the Homestead of Anoka magazine. He was a published Poet and enriched the world with his writings. Edward is preceded in death by his wife, LaVon Goor his parents, Earl Goor and Maude Davis and 2 half brothers. He is survived by his half sisters, Elsie Koons, Gallatin TN. and Bess Weidenbach (husband, Clarence) Little Falls, MN. Ed is also survived by all 8 of his children. Edward and LaVon had 5 sons, Neil (wife, Ginny) Coon Rapids MN. Jeff (wife, Artie) Franklin MA. Joe, New Ulm MN. Blaine, Phoenix AZ. and Brian (wife, Pat) Eagan MN. They also had 3 daughters, Char, Windom MN and Omaha NE. Kathy, Pahrump NV. and Amy (husband, Brett) Pahrump NV. Edward's legacy continues with 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren. Honoring his service, a US Flag will fly at half-mast over The USS Lexington memorial on June 6, 2015.
