Eddie was born on November 10, 1963, to Edward Berger, Sr. and Darlene (Voth) Berger in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At the age of one, he moved to Mountain Lake with his mother and sister, Dawn to be closer to his maternal grandparents, Peter and Jennie Voth. Growing up, he enjoyed spending time with neighborhood friends, hiking with his good friend, John Lindquist and playing his trumpet. His musical talent earned him a scholarship with Bethany Lutheran where he spent a year of college. Later, he obtained a diploma in Band and Instrument Repair from Red Wing Technical College. He worked many years at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, first as a nursing assistant and then as an LPN. He attended Ridgewater College while working and graduated in 1992 with his nursing degree. When the covid pandemic occurred, he left his nursing job in 2021 and began his job at the Windom Community Center. In 2019, he married Amy and in 2023, they made the move to Shakopee. At the time of his death, he was currently working at Menards in Eden Prairie.
Eddie was a talented trumpet player and he also played the flugelhorn. When he lived in Windom and Mountain Lake, he was a member of the brass quintet, Worthington Brass. Together, they spent many days over the years entertaining at nursing homes and community events. Eddie was also called upon many times to play “Taps” at military funerals and just helping with various community events playing his trumpet. Eddie also enjoyed woodworking and made birdhouses, furniture and other items.
Eddie enjoyed spending time with his wife, checking out historical places and musical events. At home, he had a garden, many flowers and made the outdoor spaces of his home very beautiful.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Amy of Shakopee, MN; sister, Dawn Voelker of Union, SC; niece, Sonya (CJ) Brown of Lake Wylie, SC; stepson, Kenny Riihl of Mountain Lake, MN; stepdaughters, Kristine (Marco) Sanchez of Farmington, MN and Paige (James) Hamm of St. James, MN; grandchildren, Ax, Odie, Aurora, and Luka who live in Farmington with their parents, Kristine and Marco; cousins in Washington, Charee, Jane, Mary, and Mim; and his beloved Yorkie-Poo, Pepper Ann.
