Edna Emma (Hayek) Johanek was born on June 13, 1919, to Edward and Freda (Hamp) Hayek near Mountain Lake, Minnesota. She grew up six miles south of Mountain Lake and attended country school district # 68 in Jackson County. On October 1, 1947, she was married to Albin Mitchell Johanek in Mountain Lake. They farmed eight miles north of Jackson for six years, then bought a farm southeast of Mountain Lake, where they lived and farmed for 36 years. In 1989, they retired and moved into Mountain Lake. Albin died on January 29, 2003. Edna enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, flowers, raising chickens, and gardening - especially her good tasting tomatoes. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the ladies P.W. A. and former member of the Town Country Extension club and VFW Auxiliary Post 9072. Edna died on Friday, January 14, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Edna is survived by several relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albin Johanek; and a sister and her husband, Bernice and Walter Fecker.
