Dorothy Schmid-Manahan

Parish Prayer Service is Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Dorothy Schmid-Manahan was born November 3, 1918, in Redwood Falls, MN, the daughter of Tom and Daffodil (Scoates) Arnett. She attended school in Redwood Falls and was united in marriage to Bernard 'Pete' Schmid on September 7, 1935, in Redwood Falls. Pete died in 1956. Dorothy worked as a bartender at the Redwood VFW and moved to Clements in 1952 to manage the Clements liquor store for 23 years. She then moved back to Redwood Falls and worked at the VFW before retiring after a few years. Following retirement, Dorothy married Harold Manahan and moved to Minneapolis. She moved back to Redwood Falls in 1996, and to Springfield in 1998. She enjoyed puzzles, knitting, sewing, baking, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her children and great-grandchildren. Dorothy Schmid-Manahan died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Wooddale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls at the age of 89 years. Survivors include children- Tom Schmid of Hackensack, MN, Judy and Dennis Richter of Maricopa, AZ, John and Blondi Schmid of Douglas, WY, Karen and Jerome Jensen of Springfield, MN, Sally and Bob Nelsen of Everett, WA, Pat and Lester Schultz of Redwood Falls, MN, Douglas and Vicki Schmid of Douglas, WY, and Susan and Daryl Rielander of Hudson, WI; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and sister- Corrine Castle. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband- Pete in 1956; daughter Dorothy Sandberg; brothers- Elmer, Giles, Clifford, Tom, Jr., and Wilbur; sisters- Myrtle and Geneva; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren- Jessica and Catherine Scott; and daughter-in-law- Pat Schmid.
