Donald Zimmermann

Donald Zimmermann was born on February 19, 1932 to Walter and Erna (Gerth) Zimmermann in Waterbury Township in Redwood County. He attended school through the 4th grade at District 85 in Waterbury Township and graduated from South High School in Minneapolis. Don was united in marriage to Lois Otto on August 25, 1953, at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. This August would have marked their 60th anniversary. He served in the US Army from 1954-1955 stationed in Baumholder, Germany after his basic training at Fort Ord in California and Fort Riley in Kansas. The couple returned to Lamberton and farmed in Waterbury Township before moving to Lamberton in September of 1999. Don served on the board of DHIA for two terms, president for one, was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church serving on the council for two terms, president for one, and served as a delegate to the AMPI District Convention. He enjoyed swimming, fishing, visiting, collecting John Deere paraphernalia, reading, playing computer solitaire, puzzle books, watching Wheel of Fortune, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered by his family as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Donald Zimmermann died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 81. He is survived by children - Bev Zimmermann of Marshall, Denise (Mike) Pelz of Plymouth, Kevin (Jane) Zimmermann of Lamberton, Roger (Kerri) Zimmermann of Lamberton, Kari (Dan) Morisette of Marshall; grandchildren - Lindsay Pelz of Marshall, Brittany (Bryan) Tetrick of Mayer, Amy Zimmermann of Bemidji, Dianne (Ben) Pohlmann of Golden Valley, Mark Zimmermann of Lamberton, Sara Zimmermann of Bemidji, and Kameron, Ryon, Kegan, and Zak Zimmermann of Lamberton;great-grandchildren- Isaac Pohlmann of Golden Valley, and Finley Pelz of Marshall; sisters-in-law Jan Zimmermann of Waseca, Dorothy Otto of St. James, and Maxine Otto of Redwood Falls; brother-in-law Leon Otto of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lois in 2012; son Gregory; brothers - Gerald and Ray; brothers-in-law - Norman, Leonard and Jim; sisters-in-law LuVerne, Eunice and Eleanor.
