Donald Meyers

Donald G. Meyers, the son of Ernest and Jankan (Loof) Meyers was born at Mountain Lake, MN on March 11, 1923. He received his education at District 47 and District 73 country schools. Don was baptized at the Christian Reformed Church near Mountain Lake, and on Jun 21, 1959 he became a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. During WW II Don served his country in the U.S. Army from January 1945 to December 1946 in the South Pacific and as an MP in the Philippines. Following his return to the United States he resumed farming. On October 16, 1951 Don was united in marriage to Darlene Peterson at the Christian Reformed Church and they made their home at Mountain Lake. After farming Don worked with Land O Lakes as a truck driver, dispatcher and in the plant from 1957 to 1965. On March 26, 1965 he purchased the Standard Station in Mountain Lake and operated it for 21 years and 4 months - until his retirement. Following his retirement he help Dan and Curt Janzen with their farming, and he drove truck for Nickel Construction. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading, telling stories of the good old times, and traveling with his wife Darlene. Donald died peacefully on Sunday evening, December 27, 2009, at the Windom Area Hospital. Don is survived by his wife, Darlene Meyers of Mountain Lake; 4 children, Karen (Darryl) Bargen of Mountain Lake, Karla Meyers of Bradenton, FL, Ronald Meyers of Dallas, TX and Luann (DeLyle) Fast of Butterfield, MN; 6 grandchildren, David (Melissa) Bargen, Matthew (Crista) Meyers, Timothy (Amanda) Meyers, Renee Olson, Vicki Fast and Ryan Fast; 7 great grandchildren, Johnathen and Alayna Bargen, Devin and Dylan Meyers, Emma Meyers, and Caleb and Kaitlyn Olson; 4 brothers, Clarence Meyers of Mountain Lake, Roy Meyers of CO, Lester Meyers of Billings, MT and Irvin (Maybin) Meyers of Lakefield, MN; a sister, Ethel Meyers of Dakota, IL; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant triplet sons, John, James and Joel; a brother Louie Meyers; and an infant sister, Gladys Meyers.
