Donald Holland

Donald Holland, age 71, of St. James, died at his home on May 1, 2012. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 5, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Ken Bowman officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 4pm to 7pm at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services. Donald Duane Holland was born October 3, 1940 at the Mountain Lake Hospital in Mountain Lake, Minn., the son of Harry and Alvina (Kunkel) Holland. Don grew up in the Odin area where he attended country school through the 8th grade. He graduated from Butterfield/Odin High School in 1958. He worked as a carpenter for a couple years before joining the military, he served from 1960 to 1963. When he returned home from his military tour he went to work at Scherr-Tumico and helped on the family farm. He worked at Scherr-Tumico until his retirement in 2006 he then worked there part-time until January of this year. The family farm continued to be part of his life throughout the years. Don married Ruth Ann (Fran) Harrington on February 17, 1968 in Comfrey, MN. Don was a member of First Lutheran Church in St. James and the American Legion. He enjoyed farming and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Don is survived by his wife; Fran Holland of St. James, daughter; Stephanie (Mark) Redman of Bingham Lake, son; Jason Holland of St. James, grandchildren; Conner Matthew Redman Sydney Alexis Holland, brother; Lyle (Ruth) Holland of Mankato, sister-in-law; Suzanne Holland of N. Mankato, several nieces, nephews and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Dennis Holland.
