Donald Edwin Ayres was born March 25, 1928 at Grogan, MN to parents Ervin and Daisy (Bowers) Ayres. Don was raised in St. James where he graduated from St. James High School. Don attended vo-tech at Alexandria, MN. He was confirmed at the Presbyterian Church and later became a member of the United Methodist Church. Don served in the military from Feb. 1954 until Feb. 1956. On December 29, 1956 he was united in marriage to Doris Mae Sandmeyer. The couple made their home in the Villard area where they farmed and owned a resort for several years. Moving to St. James in 1974 when he became a partsman at John Deere. Donald was a member of the St. James American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, deer hunting, fishing and gardening. Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister Edna Jacobson, and brother-in-law Fred Scofield. He is survived his wife Doris Ayres of St. James, daughters Darla Joe Sharbach of Lakeville, Dana Kevan Moody of St. James, grandchildren Jesse Sharbach, Trevor Sharbach and his fiancee Sara Isberner all of Lakeville, Alayna Moody and Jill Moody both of St. James, sister Judy Scofield of Zimm and brother-in-law Orville Jacobson of Melrose along with many nieces and nephews.
