DeMaris Marilyn (Keckstein) Hauger was born September 6, 1930, in New Ulm, Minnesota, the daughter of Leo and Frances (Meurer) Keckstein. DeMaris was a 1948 graduate of Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm. She graduated from Mankato Business College in 1950. DeMaris was united in marriage to Tony Hauger on January 29, 1951 at Holy Trinity in New Ulm. DeMaris was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. DeMaris Hauger died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Mayo - St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester Minnesota. DeMaris is survived by children Warren and wife Cathy Hauger of Springfield, Karen and husband Art Stenzel of Minnesota Lake, and Sally and husband Dennis Anderson of Springfield; grandchildren - Andrew Hauger, Benjamin (Amber) Hauger, Matthew Hauger, Scott (Michelle) Stenzel, and Kelly (Kris) Schlueter; great-grandchildren Lucas Hauger, Issac Hauger, Mason Schlueter, Addie Stenzel, and Colter Stenzel; a sister LeRone Wilfahrt, of New Ulm; sister-in-laws Dorothy Sprank,of Burnsville, Lorraine Kelly, of Burnsville, Kathy Hauger, of Springfield. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and the residents and staff of Station 1 at St. John's Circle of Care. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Tony in 2010, brother-in-law Melvin Wilfahrt; brother and sister in-laws Carl and Elna Hauger, Jon and MaryAnn Hauger, Wesley and Virginia Langhoff, Henrietta and Willard Nado, Lawrence Hauger, Marie Schunk, James Sprank, and Warren Kelly. DeMaris was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, St. John Lutheran Home Auxiliary and Morning Coffee Ladies Group. Over the years DeMaris worked as a bookkeeper for Midland Cooperative in Springfield; Minn-Chem in Sanborn; and the Springfield Advance-Press for 28 years in the production department and later graphic design. DeMaris had a passion for sewing, everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses to quilts, and cooking. She had a large cookbook collection and in later years transferred all her favorite recipes to the computer. She kept up with technology always wanting to learn more. DeMaris and Tony enjoyed roller skating, dancing , travel and bowling. DeMaris also played the organ, polkas and show tunes were her favorite. After DeMaris became a resident at St. John Lutheran Home in 2012 she looked forward to outings on the St. John's Bus, playing cards and bingo. Her newest hobby was on-line shopping at QVC. She was very excited about the free wi-fi at St. John's. DeMaris loved history, especially about the area and Minnesota. She kept up with current events and read the newspaper daily. She would ask daily "what was new at coffee". After being diagnosed with Parkinson's DeMaris faced many challenges but was determined to make the best of it. Keeping her sense of humor and wit even in her last days. She connected with people, finding a common ground with her doctors and nurses, handing recipes and making her wishes known.
