Delbert Oliver

Delbert Bruce Cowboy Oliver was born February 9, 1936, at Fox Lake, Wisc., the son of Delbert F and Garnet (Lute) Oliver. Delbert grew up and attended school in the Fox Lake area. He served in the US Navy from 1953 to 1959. Following his military service he worked at Golden Pantry in Madelia and Tony Downs Foods in St. James. On October 21, 1967, Delbert was united in marriage to Viola Dougherty. The couple made their home in St. James where they raised their family. Delbert drove truck for Wally Peterson Trucking for many years before starting his own company, Oliver and Sons Trucking. Delbert ran the trucking company from 1994 until his health forced him to retire in 2008. He was a member of the American Legion in St. James. Delbert loved to spend time with his family and friends. During the past couple years he had enjoyed his pipe and sitting on the patio swing watching traffic go by the house. Delbert is survived by his wife of 46 years; Viola Oliver of St. James, children; Nan Coughlin and Don Bero of Island Lake, IL, Sabrina (Darwin) Carlson of Madelia, Bruce Oliver and Tim Briley of St. James, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters; Thelma Wooten of St. James, Judy White Eagle of Apalachicola, FL, Barbara of Toledo, OH, brother; Gordan (DeAnna) Oliver of White Mt. Lake, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son Joe on Nov. 8, 2012, daughter Lynn Carol, parents, sister; Dixie Gronewald, brother; Russell, Sr., brothers-in-law; Bill White Eagle, Arthur Sr., Stub, and Jimmy Dougherty.
