Cheryl Essig

Cheryl Mae Essig was born on September 2, 1929 on the family farm just outside of Lamberton, the daughter of Jack and Maude (Perry) Yackel. She graduated from Lamberton High School in 1947. After graduating from high school, Cheryl worked with Dr. RN Sampson for several years. On September 19, 1949 Cheryl married Marlowe Essig in Lamberton. Cheryl was active in her community serving in many volunteer positions. Cheryl was a member of the Lamberton Methodist Church for nearly 72 years. Cheryl served as Sunday school superintendent, directed the church bible school, served as communion steward, was an active member of a circle group for many years, and served on many committees. Cheryl sang in the church choir for over 60 years. She was blessed with an extremely beautiful voice and was asked to sing at countless funerals and weddings in the community. Cheryl was totally devoted to her family. She was a wonderful mother and treasured every moment that she had with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a talented seamstress and made many beautiful clothes for herself and her daughters. Cheryl died on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, after a brief stay in the New Ulm Medical Center, at the age of 91. Cheryl is survived by her children - John of Lamberton, Sue and husband Jeff Stoutland, and Jo and husband Paul Creighton all of Henderson MN; grandchildren - Justin and wife Christina Essig, Josh and wife Ashley Essig all of Glenwood, Kelly Essig of Fargo, ND, Jake and wife Crystal Creighton, Ryan and wife Heather Creighton, Joey and wife Callie Stoutland all of Henderson, Dan and wife Michelle of Belle Plaine, and 10 dearly loved great grandchildren; sisters- Ruth Merringer of Lamberton and Annette and husband Loren Johnson of Euless, TX; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Marlowe, son William, great grandson Jet, her parents Jack and Maude Yackel, sisters and brothers- in-law - Lavon and husbands Fernie Bloedow and Russ Engeswick and Eva and husband Ruben Dallman, brother-in-law Ray Merringer, and special cousin Norman Yackel.
