Charles Moe

April 27, 1937 — February 20, 2014

Charles Charlie George Moe was born on April 27, 1937, the son of Clarence L. and Hertha (Penkert) Moe. He spent his whole life in the Springfield area. Charlie graduated from Springfield Public School and attended Mankato State College. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Jacoby on November 28, 1958. The couple farmed east of Springfield for over 55 years and Charlie drove over the road truck for 20 years. He has trucked or traveled in most of the 48 states. He enjoyed meeting people and talking about their occupations and lifestyles. His life was farming and the family that helped him do the work. He was a firm believer in preserving the farmland and passing it on to future generations. Charlie enjoyed his grandchildren and life in general, and visiting with people, no one was a stranger for long. Charlie died on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his wife - Kathryn; children Barbara Moe and Ken (Kayla) Moe; grandchildren - Kristopher, Alex, Jessica, John, and Derek; a sister - Kathryn (Stephen) Bloom and their children - Nathan and Maren; in-laws - James (Lorraine) Jacoby, Richard (Lorraine) Jacoby, and George (Sylvia) Jacoby, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to the Springfield Area Historical Society, the Springfield Public Library, or charity of your choice.
