Burnette Marie Winkelman was born on February 6, 1924, on the family farm in rural Ormsby, MN, the daughter of Herman and Otillia (Bast) Winkelman. She grew up and attended rural school in the Ormsby area. She was united in marriage to Curtis Bowen. The couple made their home and farmed in the St. James area before moving to and farming in the Lake Crystal area. The family moved back to the St. James area in 1955 where they continued to farm until Curtis's death in 1987. Burnette lived on the farm for a short time before moving to Fairmont where she lived until 2005 when she moved to St. James. She was a member of the Extension Club, active in the Presbyterian Church and loved to play cards with friends. She cherished the time she spent with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Douglas Anderson of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren, Curt Anderson of Laurel, MT, Scott Anderson of Omaha, NE, Ross Anderson of Tuscon, AZ, a great-grandson, Cannon Anderson of Laurel, MT, brother, Donald Winkelman of St. James, sister, LaVon Olson of Ormsby, and sister-in-law, MaryLou (John) Oldenberg of St. James. She is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, and her parents, Herman and Tillie Winkelman and a brother Stanley Winkelman.
