Betty Marie (Bachmann) Peterson was born May 19, 1933 to Merle Clinton and Verda Louise (Hills) Bachmann. Betty grew up in Lewisville, MN and graduated from Madelia High School in 1951. She married the love of her life, Lawrence Peterson, in August of 1954 and they spent their first year of marriage at Fort Lewis. Upon returning from Fort Lewis, Lawrence and Betty settled in Madelia where they raised their four children: Lynn, Lori, Lance and Lon. Betty held several jobs over the course of her life. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a clerk at the Triangle Caf and she also worked at Flicek's Pharmacy for a number of years. Betty owned and operated Betty's Caf in Madelia for a short time. The job Betty loved the most and perhaps the one that she will be most remembered for is being an In-Home Day Care Provider for 20 years. To her own grandchildren and those she provided care for in her home, she will be fondly remembered as "Grandma Betty". Betty was a life-long member of the Madelia United Methodist Church. She served as secretary for many years and served tirelessly on many committees. Betty was a member of the Eastern Star, the Red Hats and worked as a volunteer for many years for Jyl Thompson's 1st grade classroom at Madelia Elementary School, earning the "Tanks of Thanks" award. In her free time, she enjoyed several hobbies, she loved to sew, work on puzzles and read. Betty loved to bake, and bring those baked goods to church for others to enjoy. She also enjoyed collecting dolls and teapots. Betty passed away on Oct. 4, 2016 at the age of 83 years. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous spirit, and endless love for her family and friends. Betty is survived by her children, Lynn (Darrell) Hockenberry of Anita, IA; Lori (Curtis) Guenther of Alden, MN; Lance (Tanya) Peterson of Fairmont, MN; and Lon (Tracey) Peterson of Mankato, MN; 8 grandchildren, Megan (Jeremy) Cook, Eric (Danielle) Hockenberry, Evan Guenther, Ana Guenther, Logan Peterson, Luke Peterson, Aron Peterson and Maren Peterson; 2 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Lucas Cook, and brother, Larry Bachmann of Madelia. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence; her parents; infant brother and sister-in-law, Grace Bachmann.
