Bernard 'Bernie' Glienke

Bernard Albert Fred Glienke was born May 27, 1926 on the family farm in Antrim Township, Watonwan County, rural St. James, Minnesota to parents Carl and Martha (Mumme) Glienke. He grew up in the South Branch area where he attended St. John's parochial school and Lewisville school. He help his dad on the farm until he was drafted in 1950. He served in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Sill, OK, and Camp Roberts, CA. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Upon returning from his military service Bernie worked at ST Industries, Tony Downs, Sam's Electric, St. James Lumber and 20 years with the St. James Water Department. In 1953, Bernie married Elaine Wiederhoeft at St. John's Lutheran in South Branch. He retired from the Water Dept. in 1989. Bernie enjoyed fishing, flower gardening and bird watching. He served as Chaplain in the American Legion Post in St. James, served in various offices, usher, treasurer and elder at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James. Bernard Glienke passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. He is survived by his sons: Jeff Glienke (Rebecca Kuebler) of St. James, James Glienke of Faribault, grandchildren; Rachel Glienke of St. James, Briana Glienke of Ormsby, Shyanna Mosser of Mankato, great-grandchildren; Joshua, Desirae, and Azalah. He is preceded in death by his wife Elaine, parents Carl & Martha, brothers Arnold and Werner, sisters Elfrieda Senf, Hertha Sternberg and Erna Moeller.
