Alice Lohrenz

Alice Elizabeth Dick, the daughter of Jacob J. and Katherine (Unruh) Dick was born on April 20, 1911, on the family farm NW of Mountain Lake in Cottonwood County, MN. At a very young age she moved with her parents to Inverness, MT, and then to Lostwood ND, before returning to Mountain Lake. She received her education at country schools in Montana and North Dakota, and in May 1928, Alice was baptized upon confession of her faith at the First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. In the fall of 1930 she became a member of Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. On July 16, 1930, Alice was united in marriage to Silas David Lohrenz at the First Mennonite Church. They farmed until 1937, when they moved into Mountain Lake. In 1941, they moved to Portland, OR, however health problems with Silas required that they return to Mountain Lake in 1946. She gave up her nursing career in 1970, when she and Silas became custodians at Bethel Mennonite Church - a position they held until 1981. She also worked with Harold Lund, a local lawyer, from 1959 - 1989 as a legal guardian and administrator for the estates of many people. Alice was very active in the Church and community. She volunteered at the Senior Center, the Care and Share Shop, the Good Samaritan Village, and on many groups within her church. Her family was very important to her, as well as her faith in her Lord. She was a great reader, loved her flowers - especially roses, crocheting, needlework and cooking. On May 14, 2002, she moved to theEventide Nursing Home, and on April 7, 2006, she moved to the Good Samaritan Village. Alice Elizabeth Lohrenz, 95 ,of Mountain Lake, MN died on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Alice is survived by two daughters, Donne Mae and husband Orlo Buzz Hotzler of Mountain Lake, and Bernice Alice and husband Merle Wall of Windom, MN; two sons, Dennis D. and wife Joyce Lohrenz of Tulsa, OK, and Roger D. and wife Bobby Lohrenz of Keller, TX; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Anderson of Springfield, MN, and Tillie Dick of Portland, OR; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Silas on October 24, 2000; and four brothers, Wesley, Robert and twins Harry and Alfred.
