Melvin Frank Bittner was born March 14, 1922, in Johnsonville Township, Redwood County the son of Frank and Estella (Dorman) Bittner. He was united in marriage to Janet Patterson on March 2, 1952. Melvin farmed the family farm in Johnsonville Township all of his life and the couple wintered at Sanlan Ranch Campground in Lakeland, FL for the past 32 years. Melvin was a member of the Lucan Lions Club and served on the Wabasso School Board and the Johnsonville Township Board. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, shuffleboarding, and watching the Vikings and the Twins.

Melvin Bittner died Friday, April 9, 2010, at his home in Johnsonville Township at the age of 88 years.

He is survived by wife Janet; sons- Jeffrey and wife Roxanne Bittner of Redwood Falls, and Gregg and wife Lori Bittner of Clermont, FL; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Marian Giesler.
