Edith was raised on the farm where she loved working outdoors with her
parents and sisters. Edith was third born of four girls, Lizzie, Ella, and
Hazel, and attended Country School District #63 through eighth grade.
The girls walked to school in the summer - in winter their dad would take
them across the fields in a bobsled under a huge horsehair blanket. They
grew up a very close-knit family staying close all their lives,
celebrating holidays and birthdays together.
Edith married Bernhardt (Ben) Asendorf on July 31, 1935. Together they had
two children, Joan (Jo) Carol and Roger Eugene. Edith and Ben were a great
team working side by side their entire lives. She loved to garden
and canned many, many quarts of vegetables and fruits to last the winter.
She was a great cook and made the best pies and cakes. She loved to sing
along with the radio. She and the family would sing all the way to
town every Saturday night. Edith and Ben loved to dance - it was evident
they belonged together as they glided across the floor.
Edith was a lifetime member of St. James United Methodist Church and was
active in ladies aid and circle and made sure the family attended church and
Sunday school weekly.
In her later years she moved into town to the Prairie View Apartments and
then into Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center where she had many wonderful
friends.
